Vintage Thursday: more bedding

Ever since I got my awesome $10 quilt made of vintage fabrics(but in new condition) last November, I have been loving that look. I thought I took a picture of it on my white Ikea bedspread which we used during our coldest nights, but it looks like I didn't! I loved the way the bright colors looked against the bright white. Above is just a picture reminder of my quilt, but not on the white. :\

I think a globe of the world needs to be in my house. Not only for decorative reasons, but becuase it's fun to just look at the world and see countries you never hear about.

While looking around for vintage items, I found the beautiful sugar bowl and then decided to do a tea theme. Then the lyrics from Doe a Deer came into my head "tea, a drink with jam and bread" after I found the adorable ceramic apple jam container. I want that!!

I'd still really like to share pictures from Christmas and hopefully tomorrow I will have that ready. I haven't written as many posts lately with just trying to get back into a routine. I had to get blood drawn this morning for routine blood work - though I haven't had any blood work done since I was pregnant. And I never had it done before that! They are checking things like cholesterol, thyroid, and other stuff. A lot of people I know have had high results for cholesterol even when they were thin or vegetarians, so I won't be surprised if mine isn't in the right number zone either. But I can hope!

Vintage Thursday: Gussied up for Christmas

Vintage Thursday: Typewriters

At the craft bazaar last weekend, in the Bottletree cafe location where about 10 vendors were selling, there was someone selling typed out poems for $1. I went there with my friend Rachel and she decided to check it out. Me and Rachel had gone to Bottletree to order lunch for us, my mom, sister, and a friend, so we were waiting for all the food to be ready while we shopped.

The girl(well, more like a grown up woman) selling the poems was sitting behind an old typewriter. She said you tell her a subject and right then and there she would type out a poem for you! Rachel told her to make it about crafty stuff, and about five or ten minutes later she had a half page poem written which was really quirky and cute. You didn't just get a couple quick lines in a poem, you got many thought out, creative lines.

I regret not getting one myself but our food was ready when Rachel's poem was done, and we had been waiting awhile and were starving. So we had to leave and bring the food back to where my mom was selling.

Later on, I took over my mom's table area so she and my sister could go to the cafe and see what was for sale there. They both got poems typed out. My mom's subject was Russia and the cousin she met online. Jenny(my sis) picked New York City as her subject. Their poems were equally cute and creative! My mom gave the gal $5 instead of just the $1 she asked for.

Of course, this also made us want an old typewriter!

Vintage Thursday

So I did pick things that all had a certain background for today's post! From two different shops: Capricious Traveler (clothing items) and OliveVintage (brass items) I just love that songsheet background.

Yesterday me, Kavi and my mom went to another cute downtown area not far from here in Attalla. Their little downtown is mostly just antique shops. There is one shop there that has the same name as one of my etsy shops, The Cozy Nest! And I love that store. It sells mostly childrens items. They also have various handmade things and fresh potpourri ingredients to make your own mix, or buy a premade mix. They all smell so good. The whole shop was 30% off. I just bought a couple Christmas items and a little ornament for Kavi with Elmo on it(one of his recent favorites from Sesame Street).

In a store next to The Cozy Nest called Blossom Antiques, everything was 50% off. I got a very pretty locket brooch. It doesn't look vintage to me because it's in such nice condition, but I guess it could be? I am just not sure. I just that know I love it and got it for $5.

This morning I felt like I needed a bucket load of coffee, but instead I just had a cup and a half. My son has been waking me up in the middle of the night the past few nights. Today it was from 4:30am-6am, waking up here and there, wanting to use the bathroom three times. But it was cold in the bedroom. The heat wasn't clicking on properly and that might be why he kept waking up. I felt very exhausted and frustrated though. I just wanted to sleep, undisturbed. Let's hope tonight is better! I'd love to be able to sleep undisturbed through the night again one day! :P

Vintage Thursday: Curvy Cats

Often the cute vintage clothing items on Etsy that catch my eye are sized small or extra small. While they are fun to look at, they seem unrealistic for many people to actually wear!

So I went looking for items that were labeled plus size or XL or up. A pet peeve of mine after searching for them a few times, is items labeled plus size that are absolutely NOT, being modeled on a skinny girl. Another pet peeve is when the item really is a larger size, but is still being modeled on a skinny girl, wearing a belt to make the waist look smaller. I understand the people listing the items might not have someone, who the outfits would actually fit, available to wear the outfit for their Etsy pictures. It's much better though if we can see how the items fit the women in that size.

I came across so many that annoyed me because of that, or lied and said they were plus size when they weren't. But I didn't want to post those since it could be a direct insult to a specific shop or person, which I wouldn't want to do. (I don't even remember which shops they were anyway)

But here are some items I came up with.

And guess what? I made my first Etsy vintage clothing purchase!!! A shirt was on sale for $9 with free shipping, so how could I not buy it and try it out? It's from the shop brickhousevintage. It's a nautical navy shirt with white tie. I am sure I can tie that into a little bow or something. I hope I get it before next Wednesday so I can try it before going away to Alabama for a couple weeks. :)
